Adonis, tr. by Khaled Mattawa, Selected Poems

acti-veg:

‘Livestock farming has displaced millions of indigenous people and destroyed billions of hectares of wildlife habitat. It’s political power is greater than its economic weight. As it rattled the gates of protected areas, governments in many nations have unlocked them.

In 2018, Brazil became the world’s largest beef exporter. Since 2020, when the United States lifted its ban on raw Brazilian beef, it is highly likely to have imported large volumes from places where the rainforest was illegally cleared by ranchers, including ecological and indigenous reserves they have felled and burnt. There is no requirement to label the meat as produced in Brazil, let alone in the Amazon: customers are kept in a state of ignorance.

Some of this beef is promoted as pasture-fed. People who believe this is a good thing either never discover, or tend to forget, that pastures were carved out of forests or savannahs.’

George Monbiot, Regenesis: Feeding the World Without Devouring the Planet

Not just beef but soy too (as feed)- unless thats included in beef production?
